I really liked it, but apparently prefer the Baron wines. I think everyone pegged this for a Comtesse and this was the groups WOTN. 1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac.It got the most first place votes of any wine but finished #3 for the group. This seemed to be a love it or hate it wine. Not as complex as I would have thought, but seems like it has plenty of time. A bit of black jelly beans on the finish. Ruby in color, cassis and leather on the nose. 1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac.In a weird quirk of fate, the wines were served blindly having all the Comtesse first followed by the Baron. On the palate, this is flabby and bitter with some diesel notes. ![]() Not sure what happened here.I think an off bottle as I doubt this fell off the table this quickly. 2005 Château Rieussec R - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Contrôlée.The nose was nice with lime peel and a bit waxy. 2006 Château Thieuley Sec - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux ContrôléeĪ 50/50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.All of the wines were good to great and certainly, there is some value to be found in both these houses compared to first growth pricing. ![]() I had the Baron wines 1, 2, and 3 on my scorecard. ![]() I found it interesting that for myself, I rated the Baron wines ahead of the Comtesse with the exception of an under-performing 89. All wines were consumed blind over the course of a couple hours. Last night my tasting group met to compare the wines of Pichon Longueville, the Baron vs.
